Costa Rica’s Charter License: What You Need to Know

Costa Rica has recently introduced a new charter law, making it easier for foreign-flagged yachts over 24 meters to operate in these beautiful waters. If you're looking to bring your yacht to Costa Rica, here's a quick overview of how it works:

Foreign-flagged yachts 24 meters or longer must apply for a charter license via the digital form available on the ICT website (www.ict.go.cr). The license is valid for one year and can be renewed. During this period, the yacht can enter and exit Costa Rica as needed. Crew members require a 90-day tourist permit.

Yes. Any foreign-flagged yacht 24 meters or longer offering charter services in Costa Rica must obtain a charter license, even for short stays or single charters.

The 2.5% tax applies to the gross charter income and must be paid via electronic transfer to the Migration Department within ten business days of the service's completion. The Migration Department will provide a receipt for your records.
